Alternative Energy Research Building Combustion Lab

Research

The research at Michigan Tech's Advanced Internal Combustion Engines Laboratory (AICE Lab) focuses on combustion and sprays of conventional and alternative fuels in current technology engines, as well as advanced hybrid engines and others.

The lab was set up with the following goals:

  • Gasoline IC engine research and the development of physical based correlations and models,
  • Development of combustion measurement techniques for diesel, gasoline, and advanced combustion systems
  • Biofuels including ethanol and Biodiesel with production from forest products and application in advanced combustion engines, and
  • Combustion processes and combustion control of hydrogen and hydrogen dual fuelled engines.

The AICE Lab was founded in 2004 under the direction of Professor Jeffrey D. Naber in the Department of Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics.
